Kiersten Wilber

I grew up in the mountains of Alaska, and moved to the southwest to earn my bachelor’s in environmental science from Northern Arizona University. I discovered my passion for teaching while working for environmental and outdoor education organizations in Alaska, Colorado, and Montana. As a Peace Corps volunteer, I worked with local elementary and middle school students to promote endangered species conservation through a junior rangers program in a Peruvian national park.

When I moved back to the United States in 2016, I landed in Brevard and continued my career in outdoor science education. I first became part of the Brevard Academy community when I worked for Mountain Roots as BA’s outdoor education instructor for two years. As a field instructor for Muddy Sneakers, I led 5th grade students on science expeditions on Western North Carolina’s public lands.

In 2020, I decided to take my education career into the classroom. I graduated with a graduate certificate in elementary education from UNC Charlotte in 2021. I am so happy to continue to be a part of the Brevard Academy community as a 3rd grade teacher! When I am not teaching, I love playing the banjo, rock climbing, canoeing, and exploring with my dog.
